The Addiction to Advancement
The weirdest thing dawned on me the other day. I was spending time with a friend; she had squeezed an hour for me while I happened to be in town. I was super grateful; this person is a great mentor and friend but is exceptionally busy.
However, as I get older, I wonder why some people are so busy.
For example, this friend of mine is very wealthy. By very wealthy, I mean I know she does not need to work to sustain her day-to-day life. However, she works and sees work in a very survival-focused mindset. She is very worried about future stability for someone who has so much financial security in an obsessive (addictive) manner.
Before judging this person, I try to adjust my perspective and ask the simple, but difficult question:
What am I not seeing?
This friend of mine is on a clear purpose, a purpose to prove a point. She is seriously committed to her work in a manner that is demonstrated by what she is willing to sacrifice, sustain and settle for in order to professionally continue to receive recognition.
