Society in Stalemate

I finally figured out this thing they call reality

Built by those who embody the concept of our society

They chant the slogan, ‘Be the best you can be! Absolutely!

But don’t you dare try to supersede me…’

It’s okay, just get back in line, and you will be fine

Without our guidance, you’ll be hopeless, so stand single-file

Going alone is as impossible as breaking the four-minute mile…

You turn to see who spoke the words, but no one’s there,

“If you cannot see it, do not believe it,” is the chant they share,

“Do not venture off the path,” they repeatedly advise

So you do what you’re told and do not seek surprise

They tell you to study hard

For what purpose, is not of clear regard

Simply keep following the path we’ve paved so carefully

It will take years, and for every problem, they must strike a committee.

Time ticks forward with gaining speed

‘Can we pick up the pace,’ you fret, ‘life can’t be just to survive the mundane deed’

The time ticks on, but the days repeat

Wake, work, weary, an endless beat

If you venture off the singular path, they’ll chide you demonstrously
