Shrink Your Square Footage for Success
I am living in a really big house right now. Like, 2500 plus square feet, three floors, carpet and hardwood, and my companions are a furry pup and messy toddler.
That is a lot of square footage to keep clean, and it has made me…grumpier than I normally tend to be.
My ideal household footage is 1200 square feet. My roommates are obsessed with me; if I am in a room, they, too, will be in that room and as close to me as possible pretty damn quickly. So there’s a sanity to my formula because I thought this homesitting experience would feel lavish and decadent, but this situation does not fit our formula of lavish decadence.
We are a water family. We like to go for walks and being outdoors a lot of the time. We do not need a house with a lot of rooms because if we are home, we are resting, learning, relaxing or eating. Most of that shit happens in two rooms, the kitchen and the bedroom (we are a television-in-the-bedroom family, and we do not appreciate your judgment).
I am spending an hour and a half minimum just keeping this place clean daily. That’s extortion; I ain’t getting that time back, and no one is paying me for this. Right now in life, I do not want all this space, I would much rather have a 1000 square foot condo that I can clean from top to bottom in thirty-minutes flat. Then I would have the much-needed time I require to sit down and actually watch The Wire from beginning to end. I need to…
