What’s a Shine Dimmer, You Ask?
You probably already kinda, sorta know, but hey, I’m here to define the undefinable anyway:
A shine dimmer is that special someone who wants you to shrink, splice, or surrender parts of yourself just so they can feel comfortable enough to accept you.
Yeah, it’s messed up. But trust me, there are plenty of people out there trying to dull your sparkle, and I’m here to warn you.
Once, a relative ‘checked in’ on me because they were ‘concerned,’ you know, the classic shine dimmer move disguised as family love. By the end of that chat, I found out this “concerned citizen” was busy talking smack about me behind my back. She let me know every other person she had ‘checked-in’ with who agreed with her; she went into great detail to let me know that her opinion of me was not just hers, but she was the voice of many. She literally admitted to sharing my personal information high and low to validate her stance as superior. Classic dimmer move people; they need to get everyone on ‘their side’ in order to retain their righteousness.
Do I rebut? Nope. I don’t waste my time proving my worth to petty people with penniless personalities anymore. Let them gossip behind my back until the end of time. I’m done playing their game.
