I think it is hard to focus on the customer and not financial gain because it is hard for anyone to think about anything as more important than themselves.
We are all narcissists, whether we want to admit to it or not and it guides our daily lives in a powerful way.
The bottom line, increasing revenue and attaining more fiscal wealth is important for the external product of success, but when we lose the client in the process, the long term results will be shaky. We struggle to focus on the good because goodness is not a measurable product, but money is very much a measurable sign of success.
Until society shifts its perspective from power and wealth, we will all continue to struggle in supporting one another for the simple sake of supporting our fellow person.
We can feel that we alone do not have much power, but the ripple effects of our own actions for good can go a long way.
