Reviving Your Relationship When It’s in a Rut

Relationships can be taxing.

Relationships can take more out of you than fulfill you during certain chapters of the journey.

Relationships can feel meaningless or even harmful to your self-worth, growth and purpose when they are not functioning well.

When your relationship with your spouse is in a rut, it negatively impacts many other areas of your life.

It impacts your mental health because it takes a lot of energy to be resentful, argumentative or sad. It hurts the well-being of your life, and it requires us to be accountable to correct the situation.

The pandemic has not helped. I cannot remember the last time my partner and I went for a meaningful, purposeful date. We have not travelled for leisure in years, only to see family or loved ones. The pandemic has taken a toll on our relationships, and we need to accept that if we are in a rut, relationship-wise, we need to rudder the boat and direct the relationship to a better-charted course. The pandemic may never end, or at least it feels like that and is yet another excuse or justification as to why the relationship is not working, but perhaps it is something else.

Becoming new parents has not helped our relationship at all levels either. With the responsibility of taking care of another person’s wellbeing, we now spend a lot of time splitting the responsibility of our baby, work and…
